What Macs and MacBooks are compatible with macOS Big Sur?
Apple announced interesting news for macOS Big Sur: redesign, introduction of iOS features such as the Control Center and updates for the Messages, Safari, Apple Maps and Apple TV apps.
Now, all these news are useless if your Mac or MacBook is
not compatible with the latest version of Apple's operating system. Below, we
list all the models compatible with macOS 11 Big Sur.
These are
the Macs compatible with macOS Big Sur :
• MacBook early 2015 or later
• MacBook Air 2013 or later
• MacBook Pro 2013 or later
• Mac mini 2014 or later
• iMac from 2014 or later
• iMac Pro (all models)
• Mac Pro 2013 or later
As you will see, this is a shorter list than the macOS

and MacBook Pro models from mid-2012, and Mac mini and iMacs from late 2012.
Is your Mac
or MacBook compatible with macOS Big Sur?
Perhaps the above list does not help you much to know if
your Mac or MacBook is compatible with macOS Big Sur. That is why we have
accumulated this list so that you can easily identify your Mac model .
MacBook
early 2015 or later
These models include the smaller and thinner 12-inch
MacBooks with a Retina display that Apple introduced in March 2015. These
MacBooks are available in gold, silver, and space gray.
MacBook Air
2013 or later
Apple took a while to update the MacBook Air and didn't make
much of a change between 2015 and 2018, the year the company introduced the new
redesigned model. They are also compatible with 2013 models, both 11 "and
13".
MacBook Pro
2013 or later
As long as your MacBook Pro is not older than late 2013, you
can run Big Sur. Mind you, remember that the 2012 model (the last to have a DVD
player) was also sold in 2016, so make sure which model it is.
Mac mini
2014 or later
Like the MacBook Air, the Mac mini was also not updated for
several years. Compatible models include the late 2014 model, the new 2018
model and the 2020 model.
iMac from
2014 or later
The main novelty for the 2014 iMac was the introduction of
the Retina 5K display on the 27 ”model. The following year came the iMac 4K.
The bottom line is that if your iMac has a Retina display, you can install
macOS Big Sur.
iMac Pro
(all models)
The iMac Pro was first released in 2017, that is, relatively
recently, which is not surprising that it has macOS Big Sur compatibility. As
you know, unlike other systems, Apple's have compatibility for many years.

Late 2013
The only Mac Pro compatible with macOS Big Sur are those
with a trash can-style design and the new one, the 2019 Workstation. If you
have an older model, the cheese grater-style aluminum towers, you won't be able
